Advantages of Certification

For the professional rehabilitation counselor, CRCC certification:

• Establishes a professional identity,
• Establishes a minimum level of knowledge, and continuous upgrading of skills,
• Is required by many state agencies,
• Promulgates a code of ethical practice,
• Provides a review process of published standards of practice, and
• Promotes ongoing role and function studies to validate their practice.

For employers, CRCC certification:

• Demonstrates that certified individuals meet acceptable national standards,
• Establishes a standard level of competency for employee hiring and evaluation,
• Provides employers with counselors who specialize in working with persons with a range of disabling conditions, and
• Acknowledges counselor preparation/education to provide vocation, person, or socialization counseling to persons with disabilities.

For the consumer, CRCC certification:

• Promotes consumer protection,
• Provides a standard level of competency counselors should provide, and
• Assures professionals are maintaining their knowledge base and skills.
