A Different VE Credential?

Communications from an outside task force - the Task Force for Alternative Credentialing - regarding the exploration and establishment of a different process and credential for vocational evaluators are posted below as they have been received by CRCC.

CRCC understands that a new VE credential will have an impact on the CVE certification and thus on those individuals practicing as CVEs.  As CRCC is aware there are distinctly different positions among CVEs, CRCC cannot take an active role in, or position on the matter.  CRCC will continue to forward information as it becomes available by posting updates both on this page and via email. To ensure receipt of all future email communications, please make sure CRCC has your current email address by using the following link:

The Task Force

A Task Force for Alternative Credentialing has been meeting since summer 2009 to explore a different process and credential for vocational evaluation. Formed by leadership from Vocational Evaluation and Career Assessment Professionals (VECAP), the Vocational Evaluation and Work Adjustment Association (VEWAA), Stout Vocational Rehabilitation Institute (SVRI), and the Department of Rehabilitation and Counseling at the University of Wisconsin-Stout, the Task Force has noted their intent is purely to support the field and profession of vocational evaluation since the process to become a Certified Vocational Evaluation Specialist (CVE) was discontinued by CCWAVES in 2008, prior to CRCC agreeing to offer a maintenance and renewal program in 2009.

The Different Credential

The Task Force further reported that, in a survey they conducted in early 2010 to determine interest and guidance in the details of the credentialing process, 70% of the 964 participants were in favor of another credential, selecting "Professional Vocational Evaluator" (PVE) as the name. While Task Force committees continue to move forward to develop the necessary eligibility criteria, standards of practice, code of ethics, and business plan with hopes to launch this professional development-based credential by spring 2011, CRCC has not been currently apprised of any details.

A CVE Call to Action
