Examine the real world and legal dimensions of the CRCC Code of Professional Ethics for Rehabilitation Counselors, including the interplay and potential conflicts between counselor, client, supervisor, and other third parties.  Through structured scenarios, participants will learn the options to consider when encountering and trying to resolve issues on the job as well as when ethical dilemmas intrude into their personal lives.  Content includes:

  • Basics of professional responsibility in situations with tension between legal and ethical requirements such as working with undocumented workers, responding to subpoenas, or reporting illegal behaviors of clients.
  • State, federal, and local laws and court cases that may prescribe, proscribe, or make discretionary counselors' conduct.
  • Scenarios involving reasonable accommodations in the workplace and other settings, confidentiality and disclosure, changes in the law, and duty to clients, other individuals, and organizations.
