The Importance of the CRC Credential

In today’s cost-sensitive health care environment, research has shown that certified practitioners achieve better outcomes for their clients. The designation of Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) is a respected, well-recognized credential for individuals who provide rehabilitation counseling services, establishing for employers a standard level of competency for employee hiring and evaluation.

Rehabilitation counselors who obtain the CRC credential are counselors who possess the specialized knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed to collaborate in a professional relationship with people who have physical, mental, developmental, cognitive and/or emotional disabilities.

Additionally, ongoing CRCC research and evaluation provides the foundation for timely review and updating of CRC examination and CRCC Policies and Procedures, including the Code of Professional Ethics.  Thus, counselors with the CRC credential also embody the best and most current practices within the constantly changing field of rehabilitation counseling.

By hiring a CRC, employers are assured that this employee:

  • Has demonstrated specialized knowledge in working with individuals with disabilities to achieve their personal, social, psychological and vocational goals.
  • Adheres to the highest professional and ethical standards, including the Code of Professional Ethics for Rehabilitation Counselors.
  • Has met respected national standards for rehabilitation counseling.
  • Is committed to continuous learning and upgrading of skills.

The CRC Credential

The CRC is the premier credential among rehabilitation counselors.  Accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA), the CRC Certification Program ensures certificants are of good moral character, meet nationally accepted standards of quality in their practice, and have the requisite educational and professional background.
