Ethical Workplace Culture and Rehabilitation Counseling Practice


Frank J. Lane, Ph.D., LCPC, CRC
Lead Presenter
Frank is an Assistant Professor and Head of Rehabilitation Counseling Psychology at the Illinois Institute of Technology.  With over 15 years of experience working for state-federal vocational rehabilitation agencies, community rehabilitation providers, and private sector rehabilitation companies, Frank has written and presented on the ethical implications of workplace culture to rehabilitation counselors employed in both public and private sectors.  Dr. Lane's recently completed research, A Survey of Rehabilitation Counselors' Experience of Ethical Workplace Culture, was the foundation for panel discussion at the Annual Conference of the National Rehabilitation Counseling Association (NRCA). 

Linda R. Shaw, Ph.D., LMHC, CRC

Linda is a Professor and Department Head in the Department of Disability and Psychoeducational Studies at the University of Arizona.  Previously, she was the Director of the Rehabilitation Counseling Program at the University of Florida.  Dr. Shaw's research focuses on disability human rights, rehabilitation ethics, and professional issues in rehabilitation counseling.  She is the immediate past-President of the Council on Rehabilitation Education, the national accreditation body for rehabilitation counseling programs.  Linda has also served as the President of the American Rehabilitation Counseling Association (ARCA) and has chaired the Ethics Committee of the CRCC.  She has published widely on issue related to disability-related job discrimination, the correlates of professional ethical behavior, and professional issues in rehabilitation counseling.

 

CRCC Ethics and the Law in the Real World - When "It Depends" Isn't An Answer


Leonard A. Sandler, J.D.

Len is a Clinical Professor at the University of Iowa College of Law where he has served on the University's College of Education Rehabilitation Counseling Advisory Board and was the former Co-Director of the Law, Health Policy & Disability Center.  Len is a member of the Iowa Advisory Committee to the U.S. Civil Rights Commission and has advised or served on the Rebuild Iowa Commission, the Task Force on Dependent Adults with Mental Retardation, and many other state and local bodies.  In addition to supervising law students, Len represents individuals and organizations on matters of disability, civil rights, and housing.  He also lectures extensively and has written and co-authored articles, legislation, a U.S Supreme Court brief, and best practice materials and policies.

Vilia Tarvydas, Ph.D., LHMC, CRC

Vilia is a Professor of Rehabilitation and Counselor Education at The University of Iowa and Director of the Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Ethics (I-DARE).  Vilia has previously served as President of the National Council on Rehabilitation Education, the American Rehabilitation Counseling Association, and the American Association of State Counseling Boards.  She has published and presented extensively on ethics, ethical decision-making, and professional governance and standards.  Her most recent textbooks are Counseling Ethics and Decision Making (2007) and The Professional Practice of Rehabilitation Counseling (in press).  Vilia has extensive experience in ethics governance and leadership and has chaired the Iowa Board of Behavioral Science Examiner's Disciplinary and CRCC Ethics Committees. She has also chaired the CRCC Code Revision Taskforce that wrote the 2010 CRCC Code of Professional Ethics and was the senior Co-Editor of a special 2010 joint edition on the new Code for three professional journals in rehabilitation counseling - Journal of Applied Rehabilitation Counseling, Rehabilitation Counseling Bulletin, and The Rehabilitation Professional.

Mary Barros-Bailey, Ph.D., CRC

Mary is in private practice as a bilingual rehabilitation counselor, vocational expert, and life care planner in Boise, Idaho.  She was the 2007-08 Chair of the Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification (CRCC) and served on the CRCC's Ethics, Exam & Research, and Standards Committees.  She was also a member of the CRCC Code Revision Taskforce that prepared and produced the 2010 Code of Professional Ethics for Rehabilitation Counselors.  Mary's research focus has been in areas of professional issues/ethics, multicultural and aging issues in rehabilitation counseling, forensic practice, and mixed research.  Mary has published extensively on professional issues and has presented over 100 times nationally and internationally.
