Sara P. Johnston, Ph.D., CRC, is an Associate Professor in the Occupational Therapy Doctorate Program, and the Olson Fellow for Global Engaged Learning at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. She was previously employed as Assistant Program Director for the Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling program at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. Her clinical experience is primarily in substance abuse counseling, in particular tobacco and nicotine cessation interventions for clients with psychiatric and cognitive disabilities. She was also employed as a supported community living counselor in Wisconsin and Iowa, and as ADA Wisconsin Project Coordinator. Dr. Johnston has served in leadership roles for the National Association of Disability Benefits Specialists and for the Rehabilitation Counselors and Educators Association. She has conducted research, published and presented on health care disparities related to disability, global health and disability, and advocacy and ethics in clinical practice.
