The Commission for Rehabilitation Counselor Certification (CRCC) is continuing to evaluate the situation related to the Coronavirus/COVID-19 and its potential impact to academic programs. We will continue to work with our academic partners and CACREP during this time.
We have received several questions regarding CRCC’s response to programs experiencing operational disruptions (e.g. university closures, site restrictions, etc). CRCC supports the efforts of programs and institutions to determine the best alternatives for graduate students to complete their degree requirements (including academic courses, internships and practicum hours) if the current conditions disrupt normal operations. As your institution and program determine the specific requirements for graduation, CRCC’s expectations are that programs continue to provide opportunities for knowledge and skills to be developed, and that programs are confident in the competencies of their graduates to meet the CACREP accreditation standards and certification eligibility requirements to enter the workforce.
Additionally, we understand that your universities and programs are wondering how this might impact your students’ ability to meet certification requirements. CRCC will work with programs providing accommodations to their students related to the use of online education, telehealth, telepractice, telesupervision, and clinical simulation with graduate internships and practicums.
Please note that external regulatory requirements should be considered as you engage in contingency planning. To better assist you in that planning, we also strongly encourage you to consult with your university, institutional accrediting agency (CACREP), and state’s regulatory/licensure guidelines as well as United States Department of Education policies.
The following resources may help you in your planning:
- Centers for Disease Control and Prevention https://www.cdc.gov/Coronavirus/2019-ncov/index.html
- United States Department of Education
- General Information: COVID-19 (“Coronavirus”) Information and Resources for Schools and School Personnel
- Office of Postsecondary Education/Federal Student Aid: Guidance for interruptions of study related to Coronavirus (COVID-19)

We understand that official transcripts for those candidates who recently pass the March exam may be delayed. CRCC will remain in touch with you and offer flexibility as you meet this requirement.
Applying for CRC Certification
The registration window for the July 10-18, 2020 examination remains open until April 30, 2020. Prometric has temporarily closed all sites until conditions are deemed safe to re-open. Their current plan is to open the Prometric sites on time for CRCC’s July testing window. Prometric has fully reviewed all test center operations and continues to mitigate the risk of spread of the virus at their testing locations.
All test center closures are posted on the Prometric website at www.prometric.com/closures.
