COVID-19

Update: 4/16/2020

The Commission for Rehabilitation Counselor Certification (CRCC) is continuing to evaluate the situation related to the Coronavirus/COVID-19 and its potential impact to academic programs. We will continue to work with our academic partners and CACREP during this time.

We have received several questions regarding CRCC’s response to programs experiencing operational disruptions (e.g. university closures, site restrictions, etc). CRCC supports the efforts of programs and institutions to determine the best alternatives for graduate students to complete their degree requirements (including academic courses, internships and practicum hours) if the current conditions disrupt normal operations. As your institution and program determine the specific requirements for graduation, CRCC’s expectations are that programs continue to provide opportunities for knowledge and skills to be developed, and that programs are confident in the competencies of their graduates to meet the CACREP accreditation standards and certification eligibility requirements to enter the workforce.

Additionally, we understand that your universities and programs are wondering how this might impact your students’ ability to meet certification requirements. CRCC will work with programs providing accommodations to their students related to the use of online education, telehealth, telepractice, telesupervision, and clinical simulation with graduate internships and practicums.

Please note that external regulatory requirements should be considered as you engage in contingency planning. To better assist you in that planning, we also strongly encourage you to consult with your university, institutional accrediting agency (CACREP), and state’s regulatory/licensure guidelines as well as United States Department of Education policies.

The following resources may help you in your planning:

Official Transcripts

We understand that official transcripts for those candidates who recently pass the March exam may be delayed. CRCC will remain in touch with you and offer flexibility as you meet this requirement.

Applying for CRC Certification

The registration window for the July 10-18, 2020 examination remains open until April 30, 2020.  Effective May 1st, Prometric, our testing vendor plans to resume in-center testing operations in their US and Canadian locations where they are able to do so in compliance with governmental directives or regulations. They have been working tirelessly to ensure that the test centers are prepared for the resumption of testing at the earliest possible date. Their preparations include performing a series of activities that will confirm both technical and operational readiness at each site. In the current environment, their operational readiness steps include the introduction of several new or enhanced processes designed to safeguard the health and well-being of everyone at the center, including test takers and the staff serving them.

One such procedural change required is the reduction of active workstations in the testing room, to conform with government-mandated social distancing standards. This will ensure proper distance is maintained between each individual during test administration. It will also effectively reduce the capacity at each location by at least 50%, and will require Prometric to displace scheduled candidates on select workstations in order to be able to preserve the remaining testing appointments. They understand the impact that this will have on those test takers and are committed to testing them as soon as possible, including looking to expand capacity through increased test center hours and days of operation. The following is additional information for you:

  • For test takers scheduling new appointments for dates from July 1 onward, the available capacity will appear to be the same 50% that's imposed during the social distancing period.
  • Every 30 days, Prometric will review current conditions and will determine if an extension of the social distancing measures are necessary.

All test center closures are posted on the Prometric website at
