Dr. Derzis is an Associate Clinical Professor in Rehabilitation Counseling at Auburn University. Dr. Derzis earned his doctoral degree in Rehabilitation and Special Education from Auburn University. Dr. Derzis currently coordinates the undergraduate Rehabilitation and Disability Studies program at Auburn University. He also teaches in the Rehabilitation Counseling program as the practicum and internship teacher. Dr. Derzis has taught courses such as Assessment, Transition and Emerging Adulthood, Professional Communication Skills, Occupational Information, Job Placement, and Introduction to Rehabilitation. Dr. Derzis' research interests are in the area of transition and emerging adulthood, career development for underserved populations, and issues in prisons. He has worked closely with the Alabama Governor’s Youth Leadership Forum for 15 years. His background includes working with non-profits and state vocational rehabilitation. He is a past president for the Alabama Rehabilitation Association, the state chapter of the National Rehabilitation Association. He is currently serving on the regional board for the Alabama Head Injury Foundation. As an At-Large-Board Member for the CRCC, he formerly served on the Governance Committee. Dr. Derzis is the current Treasurer and Secretary for CRCC through 2020.
