Dr. Sligar is a professor in the department of Addictions and Rehabilitation Studies at East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina where he serves as the coordinator of the Graduate Certificate Program in Vocational Evaluation. Dr. Sligar has extensive training in assessment, adult learning, and job placement. He is a co-editor of the Vocational Evaluation and Career Assessment Professionals Journal and on the editorial review boards of the Journal of Rehabilitation, Journal of the American Deafness and Rehabilitation Association, and New Horizons in Adult Education and Human Resource Development (online journal). Dr. Sligar has over 40 years of experience in vocational rehabilitation and has developed rehabilitation programs providing vocational evaluation and other rehabilitation services for consumers who are deaf and/or blind. He serves as an expert panelist and advisory board member for a multi-year National Institute on Disability, Independent Living, and Rehabilitation Research-funded project, Development of an Online Suite of Occupational, Substance Abuse and Mental Health Assessment Tools to Enhance Employment of Individuals Who Are Deaf. Dr. Sligar also owns a business providing training and program consultation for rehabilitation personnel in the areas of vocational evaluation, career assessment, program development, and administration.
